I sometimes post Fediverse links on Facebook. A few days ago, Facebook told me that one of them was spam, and deleted it. Coincidentally, it was a mas.to link (to a cat picture!)

I think Meta's algorithms have seen lots of links to popular Fediverse instances, and it looks like coordinated activity because Meta has a stupid algorithm. Why don't links to Wikipedia and news sites also get classified as spam? Meta must have a whitelist for those sites. And it's very convenient for them to omit Fediverse instances from the whitelist.

Moderation by algorithm is prone to a lot of false positives. But being on someone else's server (no matter who runs it) subjects you to their moderation policies. So unless you run your own server, you will have to deal with moderators.
But, moderation by algorithm tends to upset users, especially when they are innocent. That may actually drive some of these users off of Threads and onto other fediverse servers. So that could be a plus, not a minus for the fediverse-at-large.
