I'm probably the last person in the Fediverse to hear about "John Mastodon", but here's the explanation in case anyone else missed it (and cares):

- John Mastodon was banned from twitter (it was JOIN... Join Mastodon... not John.)
- Mastodon was named after this fictitious man.
- Confusing Mastodon the software with a centralized social media company.
They're just making up things now, lol.

The article has since been "corrected" to read:
"Then, the company removed the account of competing social media company Mastodon"
...still totally missing the point that Mastodon is
software and not a social media company. Argh.
