I have quite different takes on this thread depending on the viewing context, but then I have limited permissions with the group which precede the recent troubles with rumbly, so it's hard to tell exactly what's going. Posting now from your channel page.

That is the way things normally work for me, when I post to a group. If I set the post permissions to only the group, there will be one post in the group, and a copy on my page which is "direct mail" and can only be seen by me. I think that is equivalent to using "@!" with the group name.

This post of yours uses "!" with the group name, so the copy on your page is public.

Well, I think that is how it works!

It sucks but it's the best I could come up with. You're welcome to figure out how to do it and keep private groups and work with Mastodon and Pleroma as they exist today and maintain compatibility with the twelve other ways of implementing groups in ActivityPub as well as supporting nomadic identity and being backward compatible to Zot6.

Yes, I can imagine, but for now it's not really a problem, as we don't have thousands of subscribers ;) , and those who use the forum know how to get by.

@Giac El Vecio - I just use the "lock" button when I'm writing a post, and select the group as the only recipient. For me, that's easier than remembering whether it's "!@" or @!" or "!*&$*%@" or whatever.

I'm curious to try connecting to a Lemmy group, but the one that I tried didn't accept my connection, so I don't know if it works.

I've had another look and it's possibly we could federate with lemmy - and it actually should work - if only they didn't bounce all of our follow requests with a 400 error and no description or response activity.

I'm thinking that fediverse server software should all have a test account which creates a post for any message which gets sent to it (including Follow activities), and either says the message was accepted or explains why the message was rejected.

It looks like I could spin up a container with lemmy pretty easy, so I might do that and try and figure out why, but this doesn't scale when you've got over a hundred different fediverse servers.

Wasn't it a problem related and solved by updating the Composer? If you are using a different server than rumbly server maybe this is it?
