Yet another article for Fediverse beginnersI've been writing again:
Federated Social NetworksIt's an introduction to how federation works -- because I can't understand why any Fediverse newcomers will be happy if they don't understand the basics of federation.
It also includes a lot about the streams repository, making liberal use of Mike's words.
The target audience is people who have used major social media, and have no idea why they should be interested in our alternative, and also people who followed the "Join Mastodon" herd, and are confused. I'm not trying to sugar-coat things. I want people to understand that the Fediverse has many problems, and federation is not simple, but if you have the right tools (i.e., streams), you can have a really good experience here.
Yes, I capitalized Streams. I ran it past my test audience -- my extremely patient wife -- and the use of the non-capitalized word confused the heck out of her. I haven't thought of a better option yet.
Yes, it's 3400 words. I wanted to move past simplified articles like many that I have read (and written!).
Send it to your friends if you dare! The text is public domain, so if anyone wants to adapt it for their own use, you can download the multicode file
